    course description

Ellen McGrattan is currently a Monetary Advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, an Adjunct Professor of Economics at the University of Minnesota, and an Editor at the Review of Economic Dynamics. Ellen is a leading researcher in Quantitative Dynamic Macroeconomics. Her interests range from Numerical and Computational Methods to Macroeconomic Theory, and Policy Evaluations. She has a number of well-known important scientific contributions published in the best scientific journals (e.g. Econometrica, American Economic Review, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Monetary Economics, among others). She introduced new solution methods to optimization problems in Economics (e.g. the Finite Element Method), she has seminal papers evaluating and measuring the effects of Fiscal and Monetary Policies and she gave important insights about the relation between the Macroeconomy and Financial Markets. Her research can also be quite challenging, as is attested by her recent critique to the use of Structural VARS to guide the development of business cycle theory.
